From Grafton Street, Dublin to the Savoy, London

Jo’s journey began on Dublin’s iconic Grafton Street, where she trained in one of Ireland’s top salons. Driven by ambition and a desire to grow, she moved to London and joined the renowned Charles Worthington team as a young stylist. Her talent was quickly recognised, and she rose through the ranks to become a manager and NVQ educator to the salon’s apprentices.

During this time, she met Becky, who was just 16 years old and fresh into the industry. Jo fondly remembers Becky as “the model student.” She always arrived with a model, showcasing incredible natural flair and dedication from day one.

We take a trip down memory lane to the present with some great shots of their work and see how they have come full circle from being on an award-winning team to creating their very own….

Their shared passion for education, colour, and leadership led them to complete L’Oréal Colour Specialist degrees, management diplomas, and later join the CW Artistic Team. Together, they styled celebrities at the BAFTA suites at The Savoy, took the stage at L’Oréal Colour Trophy competitions, and travelled the world educating and inspiring others in their craft. All whilst building a loyal clientele who grew with them.

Pioneering Hair Education with L’Oréal

Their connection with L’Oréal Professionnel deepened as they helped design and deliver courses at the L’Oréal Academy, including the first-ever Kérastase Styling education programme. From London to Madrid, India to Ireland, they were at the forefront of artistic and technical innovation. They shared their cutting-edge colour and styling techniques as leaders in their field.

Piper Violet Hair: Born in a Pandemic, Built on Passion

Fast forward to 2020. Against all advice—“Don’t sign anything!” “You’re mad opening during a pandemic!”—Jo and Becky poured everything they had into opening Piper Violet Hair. No furlough, no investors, just grit, wallpaper paste, and sheer determination.

With a vision to create a salon culture built on transparency, personalised consultation, and elevated service, they introduced their unique Visionary Consultation. This unique selling proposition continues to set them apart from other salons in Richmond and across West London.

What began as two friends painting walls till midnight has now grown into an award-winning team of seven. They are fully booked months in advance, with clients travelling from as far as Scotland, Kent, France—and even Ukraine.
